greasers are usually characterized by their cuffed blue jeans, pompdours, flanel or white shirts, switchblades, dr martins, chuck taylors, pre 65 cars, and fondness for rockabilly music and other related styles of music. -
Guys: someone who dresses in rockabilly/psychobilly clothes, always has a comb in their back pocket, styles their hair in a pompadour or slicked up and back, wears a little bit of tighter pants then anyone else, sometimes wears white or black wife beater, wears leather jackets or jean jackets, black converse, cigarette held behind ear, styles their hair in petroleum jelly or pomade
Girls: Styles their hair in a pompadour sometimes which is let down or tied the rest back in a pony tail, sometimes short bangs that curl like sausages (haha), polka dots, high heels, tight pants, colourful fashion shirts, comb in back pocket or purse, cigarette behind ear, converse, styles their with pomade and hair spray, a lot of jewelry, red lipstick, etc. -
A greaser is a person, male or female, who is fascinated with, interested in, embodies or eminates style and/or fashion of the rebellious American youth of the 1950s and early 60s, pyschobilly, rock n roll, and rockabilly music, classic cars and trucks, muscles cars, older films, and other nostalgic items.
A greaser is someone with a passion for Americas classic era and lead an exciting lifestyle.
Greasers tend to wear clothes like white or black tee shirts, sometimes with rolled up sleeves, cuffed Levis 501, 505, 511 or other jeans, Converse All Stars (usually black or white), brothel creepers, leather jackets, chino/windbreaker jackets, denim jackets or vests, chain wallets, leather belts, Dickies work shirts and work trousers, and flannel shirts.
Modern brands like Lucky 13, Kruse, Felon, Dirty Devil, Sacred Steel, Dickies, Daddy-Os, and Woodys Retro Clothing are all great clothing sources for men to get the greaser look.
Girls, try Lucky 13, Felon, Infectious Threads and Dirty Devil. There are other good choices, you just have to know where to look.
Greasers generally slick back their hair in a Folsom-style haircut, pompadour, waterfall, quiff, Ducktail (also known as a Ducks Ass or D.A.). Pomade (also known as pomatum) or Vitalis is used to style the hair. Favorited pomade brands include Layrite, Murrays (my favorite personally), and Brylcreem.
Greaser girls do pomps and poofs, or have shorts A cuts. Hair dye is popular, usually black with a blonde or other colored stripe at the top. Take Patricia Days hair for example, thats downright greaser girl status.
Greasers, especially myself, like American cars made before 1975. They cost quite a sum of money if they are fully restored, so your best bet is to comb through the junkyard or search around for a decent classic for a project. Some other cars, like the German-made old Volkswagen Beetles, VW Karmann Ghias, or VW Squarebacks, are acceptable. They dont cost quite as much.
GREASERS ARENT EXTINCT -
A youth culture that began in the 1950s mainly among middel and lower class boys. Greasers had a heavy interest in cars, the ladies, fights, and the ladies. The classic greaser is easily recognized by the disctinctive black leather jacket, T-shirt, and jeans. Most greasers grew their hair longer than usual, and it was often applied with grease. Greasers listened to 1950s rock such as Elvis presley, Chuck Berry, and Little Richard. Many greasers grew up to become bikers.
The greaser days are often considered Americana, and the group has made a bit of a comeback. A modern greaser has most of the traits of a 50s greaser. These include a passion for cars, an interest in rock music, and an itch for a good fight. Many greasers wear the classic black leather jackets and T/sleeveless shirts just as they did in the 50s. -
The name came from the greased back hairstyle, which involved combing back hair using hair wax, gel or pomade(also called pomatum). The greaser style was imitated by many youths not associated with gangs, as an expression of rebellion. many greasers do assemble as a car club or a krew . Common hairstyles included the pompadour, the Ducks Tail and the more combed-back Folsom style.
