Overtrained athlete syndrome
-
[Overtrained Athlete Syndrome] (OAS) is a syndrome pretty much made up by Houston Texan linebacker Brian Cushing to explain his 4 game suspension to begin his 2nd season. Cushing was flagged as having human chorionic [gonadotropin] ([hCG]) in his system after he won the 2009 The Associated Press Defensive Rookie of the Year award. The problem is that hCG only appears in pregnant women and males with cancer. Cushing is neither a pregnant female nor has he had cancer. Therefore, Cushing made up a syndrome that no doctor or medical professional had ever heard of to explain having hCG in his system. Perhaps coincidentally, he never made a Pro Bowl after his rookie season.
