The Sierra Madre Oriental is a mountain range located in northeastern Mexico. The range extends roughly 1,000 miles from the Rio Grande River in the U.S state of Texas to the Canelas in the state of Durango. It has a long, narrow shape and runs parallel to Mexicos eastern coast. Peaks in the range can reach over 12,000 feet high. It is part of the American Cordillera, a chain of mountain ranges that run along the western side of the Americas.
