Kanarese, also known as Kannada, is a Dravidian language predominantly spoken by the people of Karnataka in southwestern India. It is one of the official and administrative languages of the state of Karnataka and is also spoken by significant linguistic minorities in the states of Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, and Telangana, as well as metropolitan areas such as Mumbai and Delhi.
