Poddling is a technique in sailing where the mast of an anchored boat is used to steady and support the mast of another boat, allowing them to be towed. It is also known as mast-topping or simply towing. The process involves the towing vessel pulling in behind another boat and using its own mast to provide stability, while the towed vessel is anchored and stationary. This technique can be useful in situations where the towing vessel is not able or willing to provide its own mast, such as in the case of a broken or damaged mast.
