With an electron, it forms the stable hydrogen isotope of deuterium or heavy hydrogen, symbol D, atomic wt. 2. Water with both hydrogens replaced by deuterium is called heavy water (D2O), and is used as a moderator in the harnessing of nuclear fuels.
