The light spongy pulp of the fruit of the bitter cucumber(Citrullus, or Cucumis, colocynthis), an Asiatic plant allied to thewatermelon; coloquintida. It comes in white balls, is intenselybitter, and a powerful cathartic. Called also bitter apple, bittercucumber, bitter gourd.
