        Organology is not, as you might expect, the study of organs--either human or pipe--but rather, the study and classification of musical instruments in general, which just doesnt make any goddamned sense. Why isnt it called instrumentology? It is a field that [musicologist] usually enter when they cant even hack their own field, so that in the hierarchy of music it is sort of like second [viola] in a string quartet.
        Organologusts, only a step above Musical Iconographers (q.v.), have to resort to the study of the forms, history, and classification of the instruments that real musicians get to play and that real scholars get to write about.
