Ties in Track Events - General Terms. In the event of a tie occurring in qualifying heats, the two tied competitors both go through to the next round. If a tie occurs in a fina, the referee can decide to let the two tied competitors rerun the race. If this is not a practicable option, the tie will stand.

Ties in Field Events - Javelin. These are decided by the relevant competitors second-best throws. Whoever has the highest scored throw either goes through to the next heat or is declared the winner if the tie occurs in a final.
