A sort of bagpipe formerly in use among Italian peasants. It isnow almost obsolete. [Written also zampugna.]

A type of Southern Italian bagpipe. They have two chanters and typically have 2-3 drone pipes. They come in various sizes in order to play different pitches and keys. Generally the sac is made from an entire goat skin. They are associated with Christmas and other religious festivals and are an important element of Italian folk music. Also see [Ciaramedda].
