Heroica Puebla de Zaragoza is the formal name of the city known commonly as Puebla, which is located in central Mexico. It is the capital city of the state of Puebla, known for its historic architecture, food culture and traditional pottery. The title Heroica was bestowed upon the city in honor of a battle against the French in 1862, commonly referred to as the Battle of Puebla, that took place in the city and resulted in a Mexican victory. Zaragoza refers to Ignacio Zaragoza, the Mexican general who led the successful defense in that battle.
