The Great Sandy Desert is a large desert region located in the northwestern part of Australia. It is the countrys second largest desert, covering an area of approximately 360,000 square kilometers. The desert is characterized by vast areas of red sand dunes, rugged cliffs, and dry riverbeds. It primarily falls within the Pilbara and Kimberly regions of Western Australia with minimal permanent population. Its typical wildlife includes different reptile species, small mammals, and a variety of birds, while vegetation is mostly spinifex grasses, shrubs, and desert oaks. The climate is typically hot with very little rainfall throughout the year.
