The Maltese Lira was the former currency of Malta from 1972 until 2007, when it was replaced by the Euro. This currency was usually abbreviated as Lm, although the traditional ₤ sign was often used locally. The Maltese lira was subdivided into 100 cents, and each cent was further subdivided into 10 mils.
