Genus Gleditsia is a group of deciduous trees or shrubs that belongs to the pea family, Fabaceae. These trees are native to North America, Central America, Southeast Europe, and Asia. They are popularly known as Harwood, Thorn trees or Honey Locust due to the large thorns present on their branches and trunks, as well as the sweet substance found in some species seed pods. They are often used for ornamental purposes and timber production. Some species also have medicinal uses.
