      Cap-a-pie is an adverb of Old French origin that means from head to foot or completely. It is often used to describe being fully protected or being fully armed, as in wearing a full suit of armor.

          (Fr.). “Head to foot.” In military language of the Middle Ages, this term was applied to a knight or soldier armed at all points, with armor for defense and weapons for attack.
