Thomas Nelson Page was an American writer, lawyer, and ambassador in the early 20th century. He is best known for his works of fiction that depicted a nostalgic view of the antebellum South, championing “Old South” values. He also served as U.S. ambassador to Italy under President Woodrow Wilson between 1913 and 1919. Pages novels, short stories, and essays greatly contributed to romanticizing Southern aristocracy and the plantation system, termed as the Lost Cause.
