An anticyclone is a large-scale atmospheric circulation system characterized by high atmospheric pressure at its center, and rotation in a direction that is clockwise in the Northern Hemisphere and counterclockwise in the Southern Hemisphere. It is usually associated with dry, clear weather as it moves downward and brings about subsidence or sinking air, suppressing cloud formation and precipitation.
