Donbass, also known as the Donets Basin, is a region in eastern Ukraine and southwestern Russia that encompasses territories of Donetsk and Luhansk oblasts in Ukraine and Rostov Oblast in Russia. It is a major industrial and coal mining area, known for its heavy industry and high population density. In recent years, it has been a center of conflict between Ukraine and pro-Russian separatists.
