A voltaic battery, also known as a galvanic battery, is a device that generates electrical energy through a chemical reaction called a redox reaction. It is composed of two or more different chemical substances or metals, known as electrodes, that are immersed in a conducting solution, called an electrolyte. When the battery is connected to a device, a chemical reaction takes place which allows electrical energy to flow from one electrode (the anode) to the other (the cathode), thereby powering the device.
