Genus Darlingtonia, also known as the pitcher plant or cobra lily, is a monotypic genus, consisting only one species, Darlingtonia californica, in the family Sarraceniaceae. It is native to Northern California and Oregon in the United States. These carnivorous plants are characterized by their specialized leaves that take the form of a tall, hollow pitcher, used to trap and digest insects. The pitcher is often topped with a domed appendage, resembling a cobras hood, hence the name cobra lily.
