A striped racer, also known as the California whipsnake, is a species of non-venomous snake native to the coast and foothills of California. It is a long, slender, and fast-moving snake, identified by its distinctive stripes running down the length of its body. They primarily feed on lizards and small rodents. When qualifying heats are being run, competitors are entitled to breaks between cessive heats in which they are competing 20 minutes for races up to and induding 100m; 40 minutes for races of greater than 100m and up to the 200m; 60 minutes for races of greater than 200m and up to 400m; 80 minutes for races of over 400m and up to 800m; and 100 minutes for races greater than 800m.
