A genus of plants including the milkweed, swallowwort, and someother species having medicinal properties. Asclepias butterfly(Zoöl.), a large, handsome, red and black butterfly (DanaisArchippus), found in both hemispheres. It feeds on plants of thegenus Asclepias.
