An instrument consisting of a thin metal frame, through whichpassed a number of metal rods, and furnished with a handle by whichit was shaken and made to rattle. It was peculiarly Egyptian, andused especially in the worship of Isis. It is still used in Nubia.

[Merna]

A musical instrument of ancient Egypt consisting of a metal frame with transverse metal rods which rattled when the instrument was shaken.
