It has been the currency since the countrys name was kingdom of [hijaz] .
the cent of the [riyal] is called a halalah, theyre are 5 banknotes for the riyal and they are : 1, 5, 10, 50 ,100, 500 (there used to be 20 back in 2010)
The symbol of the riyal is [SAR] (Stands for Saudi Arabian riyal) -
