Hydroxy acid (Chem.), an organic acid, having (besidesthe hydroxyl group of the carboxyl radical) an alcoholic hydroxylgroup, and thus having the qualities of an alcohol in addition to itsacid properties; as, lactic and tartaric acids are hydroxy acids.
