A strong [aniseed] liquor popular in Lebanon, Syria, Jordan, Palestine and Israel. [Arak] is traditionally cut two-thirds with water and served at meals, although it is also very tasty (and intoxicating) without food.
Arak is similar to the Greek ouzo and Turkish [raki].
