One of the grand divisions of the animal kingdom, including theclasses Cephalopoda, Gastropoda, PteropodaScaphopoda, andLamellibranchiata, or Conchifera. These animals have an unsegmentedbilateral body, with most of the organs and parts paired, but notrepeated longitudinally. Most of them develop a mantle, whichincloses either a branchial or a pulmonary cavity. They are generallymore or less covered and protected by a calcareous shell, which maybe univalve, bivalve, or multivalve.
