Crookneck

Either of two varieties of squash, distinguished by theirtapering, recurved necks. The summer crookneck is botanically avariety of the pumpkin (Cucurbita pepo) and matures early in theseason. It is pale yellow in color, with warty excrescences. Thewinter crookneck belongs to a distinct species (C. moschata) and issmooth and often striped. [U. S.]
