The state of being legally, spiritually or otherwise not married for a specified period of time. This is usually accomplished by a prayer to the [powers that be] (or a personal deity or through a personal belief system) to [suspend] any previous marriage contracts. If the person doing the praying is not immediately [struck by lightning], then that person is deemed unmarried for the specified period.
