The beautiful and highly elastic wood of a tree of the genusBrosimum (B. Aubletii), found in Guiana; -- so called from blackspots in it which bear some resemblance to hieroglyphics; also calledsnakewood, and leopardwood. It is much used for bows and for walkingsticks.
