(Bot.) A cherry tree (Prunus Mahaleb) of Southern Europe. Thewood is prized by cabinetmakers, the twigs are used for pipe stems,the flowers and leaves yield a perfume, and from the fruit a violetdye and a fermented liquor (like kirschwasser) are prepared.
