    Used in South African English and Afrikaans to express exasperation or disbelief. The word was first transliterated from the Xhosa language to Afrikaans, and then into South African English.

      In South Africa its an interjection and black people say eish if they made a mistake or are shocked etc.

        A South African word derived from Xhosa, now used in all languages within South Africa and some neighbouring countries.

        Eish is one of the reasons South Africa is so great, it can express anything from excitement to horror.

        I will explain in the examples:

        1. Excited
        2. Horrified
        3. Angry
        4. Happy
        5. Shocked
        6. Accident

                Eish is an exclamation used in South African English and Afrikaans to convey frustration, surprise, or disbelief. It originated from the Xhosa language and was later adopted into Afrikaans before making its way into South African English.
