A jack pine is a type of pine tree native to North America, scientifically known as Pinus banksiana. It typically grows in poor, sandy soils, and is characterized by its twisted, irregular growth pattern and needle-like leaves. Its cones usually stay closed for many years until a fire causes them to open and release the seeds. Jack pine is often used for timber and pulpwood. Its also a common choice for windbreaks or erosion control due to its toughness and resistance to harsh conditions.

Jack pine, Pinus banksiana, is an eastern North American pine. Its native range in Canada is east of the Rocky Mountains from Northwest Territories to Nova Scotia, and the north-central and northeast of the United States from Minnesota to Maine, with the southernmost part of the range just into northwest Indiana.
In the far west of its range, Pinus banksiana hybridizes readily with the closely related lodgepole pine. Banksiana is after the English botanist Sir Joseph Banks.
