Proserpine is a figure in Roman mythology, equivalent to the Greek goddess Persephone. She is known as the goddess of the underworld, springtime, flowers, and vegetation. She is also recognized as the daughter of the harvest goddess Ceres and Jupiter, the king of the gods. The myth surrounding her involves her abduction by Pluto, the god of the underworld, and her mothers subsequent grief causing the seasons. Proserpine is also the name of a town in Queensland, Australia.
