The common eland, also known as the southern eland or eland antelope, is a large species of antelope native to eastern and southern Africa. It is mainly found in savannahs and plains, and is known for its impressive size, with males reaching up to 1.6 meters at the shoulder and weighing up to 942 kg (2,077 lb).
