Anabas testudineus, commonly known as the climbing perch, is a species of fish in the family Anabantidae, native to Asia. It is called a climbing perch because it has the ability to survive out of water and walk on land for short distances due to special gill structures which allow it to breathe atmospheric air. This carnivorous fish predominantly inhabits freshwater bodies such as ponds, lakes, swamps, and rivers. They mostly feed on small aquatic animals, insects, and algae. The fish is also well known for its aggressive nature and territorial behavior.
