The term City of Brotherly Love is a nickname for the city of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, in the United States. This nickname comes from the literal meaning of the citys name in Greek: ‘philos’ which means love, and ‘adelphos’ which means brother. So it denotes a place marked by mutual support, solidarity, friendliness, and love among its inhabitants. It does not mean that all residents always exhibit these behaviors, but the phrase generally encapsulates the citys historical and cultural identity.
