Sideroblastic anaemia is a group of blood disorders characterized by an inability of the bone marrow to produce normal red blood cells due to defective iron utilization. This leads to the formation of ringed sideroblasts, which are immature red blood cells with iron-loaded mitochondria. This condition may be inherited or acquired and often results in abnormal accumulation of iron in the cells, leading to anemia and other systemic issues. Symptoms may include fatigue, weakness, and an enlarged liver or spleen. The types, severity, and prognosis of sideroblastic anemia can greatly vary.
