The family Hydrophyllaceae, commonly known as the waterleaf family, is a group of angiosperm plants typically characterized by hairy or sticky herbage, bell-shaped or funnel-shaped flowers, and alternate leaves. They are mostly native to North and South America, and consist of approximately 20 genera with about 300 known species. These plants may be annual or perennial herbs, as well as shrubs.
