Stenopelmatidae is a family of insects in the order Orthoptera, commonly known as Jerusalem crickets or sand crickets. These are large, flightless insects found mostly in the Western United States and parts of Mexico, known for their large, human-like heads and strong mandibles. They live primarily underground and are most active during the night. Despite their common name, they are not true crickets.
