@Becky You have it partially correct! Although sex is NOT the usual end result or even goal for most public and even private ties these days. Shibari dates back to the days before iron was being used to restain prisoners. Hempen rope was used to both restrain and to interogate. (Check out the "Ebi" tie with a 50lb boulder on top!) Some stories tell of Shin monks using certain binding ties for meditation among other things.
Technically, a "rope bunny" is simply someone who enjoys being tied up for BOTH sexual and non-sexual purposes.
Here's the neat thing.
Most of the "bunnies" I know are far from being submissive in any way. They happen to enjoy bottoming for rope however. Some switch from Rigger (one who ties), to bottom or "bunny" (the one being tied).
That sex is a "thing" in every single instance of anything to do with BDSM is an unfortunate misunderstanding. One which can cause lots of awkwardness at times!
Only a handful of times have I ever seen PIV or any other combonation thereof at "Play Parties".
BDSM doesn't even require the removal of clothing. Nor does rope.
Of course, it most certainly can! ; )
