A free phagocyte is an immune cell that circulates freely throughout the body and initiates an immune response by recognizing, engulfing, and destroying pathogens such as bacteria, viruses, or other harmful foreign particles. It is a type of white blood cells, also known as leukocytes, that includes cells such as macrophages and neutrophils. They play a central role in the bodys defense system.
