In New Zealand, overnight hiking is called [tramping]. Trampers carry all their gear with them and tramp either to huts (there is an extensive system in the NZ [backcountry]) or tent camp. [Tramping] can be a verb as well as an activity as in Im all [tramped out] at the end of a long day.
