The Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) is a regional intergovernmental organization formed during the breakup of the Soviet Union in 1991 and involves several countries from the region. This organization aims to promote cooperation in political, economic, environmental, humanitarian, cultural and other areas among its member states. The CIS includes countries such as Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Russia, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan. It facilitates discussion and makes decisions collectively concerning mutual interests but it does not have a supranational power over its members.
