Breastplate

A part of the vestment of the high priest, worn upon the frontof the ephod. It was a double piece of richly embroidered stuff, aspan square, set with twelve precious stones, on which were engravedthe names of the twelve tribes of Israel. See Ephod.

A Breastplate is a decorative tattoo across the chest usually below the neck and above the bosom centered on the sternum but not always. Like some breastplates of the middle ages had insignias like winged eagles or family crests. Many breastplate tattoos look symmetrical but symmetry is not necessary.
