The pelvic girdle, also referred to as the hip girdle, is a ring-like bony structure, located in the lower part of the trunk. It connects the axial skeleton (the spine) to the lower limbs. It is composed of two coxal bones, also known as hip bones, and the sacrum. The pelvic girdle supports the body’s weight, allows for movement and locomotion by providing attachments for muscles, and protects and houses the lower parts of the digestive and reproductive systems, as well as the urinary system.
