A phenomenon of [internet culture] wherein individuals are held to a higher standard of responsibility for their speech and actions since not doing so will result in immediate and life changing consequences. Those receiving the consequences of their actions will often use the companion term [cancel culture] to frame themselves as victims of [undue] public scrutiny , even though they put themselves in the position to receive repercussions.
