    The nut of the Pistacia vera, a tree of the order Anacardiaceæ,containing a kernel of a pale greenish color, which has a pleasanttaste, resembling that of the almond, and yields an oil of agreeabletaste and odor; -- called also pistachio nut. It is wholesome andnutritive. The tree grows in Arabia, Persia, Syria, and Sicily.[Written also pistachia.]

      To refer to a member of the opposite sex in conversation when such discussion may be considered overly discriminatory or sexist when being overheard. Can refer to the USDA system of grading for pistachio nuts and shells (i.e. U.S. Fancy, U.S. Extra No. 1, U.S. No. 1, and U.S. Select).
