An elastic cartilagelike rod which is developed beneath themedullary groove in the vertebrate embryo, and constitutes theprimitive axial skeleton around which the centra of the vertebræ andthe posterior part of the base of the skull are developed; the chordadorsalis. See Illust. of Ectoderm.
