The period from 1972 to 1996 (some would even say it ran all the way to 2008) where [American car] companies were making cars that were just awful. At first it was simply because the [feds] had enacted strict emissions regulations thanks to skyrocketing oil prices, but after those were lifted in 1983 the problem was simply lazy design and [shittacular] build quality.
